Nightschool AI: Anthropic's Claude models in Microsoft 365 Copilot, for admins
Outside the EU, EFTA and UK the setting starts on. Make it a decision, not a default.
Claude models in Microsoft 365 Copilot are controlled by the setting for AI providers operating as Microsoft subprocessors. It is on by default except in the EU, EFTA and UK. Claude is excluded from the EU Data Boundary today; on 5 November 2026 Microsoft announced it is coming into the boundary by the end of 2026.

About this guide
This page is for the Microsoft 365 admin asked whether staff can use Anthropic's Claude models inside Microsoft 365 Copilot, and whether that data stays in the EU Data Boundary. It lists what Microsoft documents about the setting and states Microsoft's 5 November 2026 announcement as scheduled, not done.
The settingOne setting controls Claude models in Copilot
Microsoft's page on AI subprocessors says Anthropic's Claude models are reached through the setting for AI providers operating as Microsoft subprocessors, managed in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Microsoft's 5 November 2026 post says admins can enable it for all users or for selected users and groups. Scope it to the groups that need it, and write the reason down.
DefaultsOn by default, except in the EU, EFTA and UK
Microsoft says the setting is on by default, except for tenants in the EU, EFTA and the UK, where it is off by default. If you have not looked at it and you are outside those regions, your staff can already use Claude models in Copilot.
Copilot audit records include the model provider, and the model name where available, so you can see which interactions used which provider.
EU Data BoundaryExcluded today, scheduled to change
Microsoft's subprocessor page says Claude models are excluded from the EU Data Boundary. On 5 November 2026 Microsoft announced that Claude models in Copilot are coming into the EU Data Boundary, and that by the end of 2026 organizations in the EU and EFTA will be able to use them with processing within the boundary.
Treat that as scheduled until Microsoft's documentation says the change is live. Re-read the subprocessor page before you tell a works council or regulator anything different.

Train the admins, then the people they support
This page covers one admin task. The Nightschool AI admin and governance course walks the whole Microsoft 365 Copilot setup in order: licensing, data protection, oversharing, Purview DLP, audit and retention, web search, agents and model providers, with every step checked against Microsoft's own documentation.
