Build your first ___
Step-by-step kits you follow at your own pace. No live calls, no cohorts. The Hermes Agent kit is available now — buy it below. The rest aren’t built yet: join a kit’s waitlist and the one with the most signups gets built next.
Nightschool AI: Build your first Hermes Agent
Hermes Agent is Nous Research's open-source AI agent. This kit sets it up on a small, locked-down Ubuntu cloud server you control, connected to an AI model, with a private Slack app (Socket Mode) so you message it from your phone or laptop and it runs 24/7 — kept alive by a background service that survives reboots.
What you'll have built
- A locked-down Ubuntu 24.04 cloud server with Hermes Agent installed and connected to an AI model
- A private Slack app in Socket Mode so you message the agent from your phone or laptop, with it replying in the same DM thread
Nightschool AI: Build your first OpenClaw assistant
OpenClaw is an open-source, self-hosted gateway that connects chat apps like Telegram, Slack, WhatsApp, and Discord to AI coding agents (such as Claude Code) running on your own machine — so you can message your agent from a chat app instead of a terminal.
What you'll have built
- OpenClaw installed and running on your own machine
- A chat app of your choice connected as the front end for your agent
Nightschool AI: Build your first MCP server
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open protocol, introduced by Anthropic, that standardizes how applications give LLMs access to tools and data — an MCP server is the piece that exposes those tools to a client like Claude.
What you'll have built
- A minimal MCP server running locally, exposing at least one real tool
- That server connected to an MCP client and called successfully
Nightschool AI: Build your first Claude Skill
Claude Skills (Agent Skills) are modular capabilities that extend what Claude can do: each Skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file (instructions plus name/description metadata) that Claude discovers and uses automatically when it's relevant.
What you'll have built
- A working SKILL.md for a real, specific task you do often
- That Skill placed where Claude discovers it, and triggering correctly on a matching request
Nightschool AI: Build your first Claude Code project
Claude Code is Anthropic's terminal-based coding agent: you run it inside a project directory, and it reads your codebase, proposes changes as diffs, and asks permission before making them.
What you'll have built
- Claude Code installed and running inside a real project directory
- A first code change made by asking it a question and reviewing its proposed diff
Nightschool AI: Build your first AI agent
An AI agent is a system that uses a large language model to decide which tools or actions to take, in a loop, toward a stated goal — rather than producing one single reply. This kit is tool-agnostic: it works whether you're building with Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini.
What you'll have built
- A first agent loop that picks a tool, uses it, and checks the result
- That loop pointed at a real, small task instead of a toy example
Nightschool AI: Build your first n8n AI agent workflow
n8n is a workflow automation tool with an AI Agent node that combines a connected chat model with optional memory and tools (such as an HTTP request or code tool) inside a workflow — the agent decides which of those tools to call.
What you'll have built
- An n8n workflow with a Trigger feeding into an Agent node
- A model and at least one tool wired up to that Agent node
