Claude for Teachers: Free Premium AI for K-12 Educators
Verified K-12 educators in the US now get free access to premium Claude, a library of teaching skills, and curriculum connected to academic standards in all 50 states. This lesson covers what teachers can do on day one and how to prompt Claude for Teachers effectively.
Claude for Teachers launched July 14, 2026. Verified K-12 educators in the US get free access to premium Claude — including Claude Code and Cowork — plus a curated library of teaching skills built around the tasks teachers said mattered most.
Two capabilities stand out immediately. First, standards-aligned lesson planning: Claude connects to Learning Commons, which maps academic standards for all 50 states down to the individual learning competencies beneath each standard. Ask for a lesson plan and Claude returns something scaffolded and aligned — not a generic outline. Second, differentiation: ask Claude to adapt any materials for students at different readiness levels and it builds a full differentiation plan plus personalized student-facing materials for each proficiency level, from scaffolded access for students who need it to extensions for students ready to go further.
Claude for Teachers also supports agentic, scheduled tasks. Hand Claude a folder of exit ticket data — student responses at the end of class — and a standing instruction like "review these every school day at 4pm and adapt tomorrow's lesson plan," and it runs automatically. Claude works while you drive home.
The teaching skills were co-developed with Learning Commons, evaluated for pedagogical rigor, and refined through classroom feedback including teachers at Prospect Schools in Brooklyn. Anthropic is piloting an impact evaluation in the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Claude for Teachers connects to nine K-12 platforms: ASSISTments (auto-scored math problems), Brisk Teaching (classroom-ready activities), Canva Education (lesson designs), Coteach (math diagrams), Diffit (adapted instructional materials), Eedi (diagnostic questions in English and Spanish), MagicSchool (classroom-ready content), Snorkl (student progress insights), and TeachFX (instructional feedback). These integrations let teachers move from a Claude-drafted lesson to finished classroom materials without leaving their workflow.
Privacy: Claude for Teachers is for educators only, consistent with Claude's 18-and-over policy. Data is not used for model training. Student information is protected by a K-12 Data Processing Addendum written to comply with FERPA. Anthropic is working with the American Federation of Teachers on gold-standard privacy practices. Teachers control what data is shared.
Access also includes the AI Fluency for K-12 Teachers course, co-created with Teach for America, and a train-the-trainer module co-created with the American Federation of Teachers. Both are Creative Commons-licensed and model-agnostic.
What changes for educators: Claude for Teachers gives verified K-12 teachers in the US free premium Claude connected to their state's standards, differentiation tools, scheduling for recurring tasks, and integrations with nine classroom platforms. Sign up by June 30, 2027, for a full year of free access. A school and district offering is coming; districts can use Claude for Nonprofits in the meantime. The differentiation and automated scheduling features alone address two of teaching's biggest time drains — materials adaptation and after-school planning work.
